講演の要旨

「1955年重光訪米の再検討ーその全体像を中心として」

鳩山政権の外務大臣・重光葵が1955年8月に実施した訪米といえば、日米安保を相互防衛条約に改定する、大胆な提案を行なったことで知られている。本報告では、重光の提案を近年公開された資料を使いながら再構築しつつ、安保改定以外の部分も視野に入れることで、重光の訪米全体を再評価することを試みる。

“A Reconsideration of Shigemitsu’s 1955 Visit to the United States: Focusing on Its Overall Scope”

Mamoru Shigemitsu, the Foreign Minister under the Ichiro Hatoyama administration, is best known for presenting a bold proposal to the United States in August 1955, with the goal of revising the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty into a mutual defense treaty. This report seeks to reassess Shigemitsu’s visit to the United States by analysing the entirety of his activities during the trip and re-examining his proposal by drawing upon recently declassified materials.

講演者略歴

博士（法学）。現在、東京大学先端科学技術研究センター特任研究員。主要論文として、「安保条約の条約期限に関する考察」『阪大法学』第69巻第5号・6号（2020年1月、3月）、「1957年岸訪米における二段階安保改定構想の検討」『阪大法学』第71巻第3-4合併号(2021年11月)、「重光外相の安保改定構想における相互防衛の検討」『ROLES Review』Vol.3（2023年3月）。

Ichiro Kaji (Ph.D.) is a Project Researcher, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo.
